Partners working together on 'Words over Weapons' are: Phaphama Initiatives; Butterfly Works; the Department of Education in Johannesburg and Pretoria. We are sponsored by Oxfam Novib, Butterfly Works and Finalist IT, Netherlands.
Phaphama Initiatives

Jabu Mashinini and Judy Connors of Phaphama Initiatives, are regular writers of youth education programs on peace building and non-violent lifestyles. Apart from writing the info cartoons and various activities for this program, Jabu and Judy, together with Phaphama staff members, manage and develop this programme in South Africa. Phaphama also gives the AVP trainings to the facilitators.

Butterfly Works

Butterfly Works is an innovative foundation and do-tank, working self initiated and as consultants to develop sustainable answers to social questions around the world. We partner with ngo's, public and private parties, educational institutions and individual experts. Our goal is to improve quality of life.
Butterfly Works, who has a history of developing e-learning programs on life topics in Africa and Asia, have developed the e-learning concept, environment, design and content of Words over Weapons. The activities and info cartoons are developed together with Phaphama. Butterfly does the initial trainings with interns who then graduate as master trainers to train new interns.

Oxfam Novib

Oxfam Novib, a member of Oxfam International, is fighting for a just world without poverty. Together with people, organisations, businesses and governments, through projects and lobby, locally and internationally. Because poverty and injustice are global problems, about unjust economic and political relationships.
One of the innovative programmes of Oxfam Novib is Reverse Development Cooperation, where organisations in the Netherlands learn from inspiring ideas and methods from Southern organisations. According to Oxfam Novib, the cooperation between Gun Free South Africa and the Foundation Against Senseless Violence is a good example of Reverse Development Cooperation. Finalist IT Group is a Dutch IT service provider, specialising in technical consultancy and software development, support and maintenance. Finalist built the CMS for the Words over Weapons website.
