Guidelines
step1.gif
Decide which program you are going to work with on the computer to make the poster. Microsoft Word if available otherwise use the program Paint. Make sure you are familiar with the program yourself before the lesson. Decide also if some learners are to work on paper in which case you will need paper and coloring pencils or crayons or markers to work with. You can also have learners make a collage with letters cut out from magazines or pictures from magazines.

step2.gif
The learners are going to make a poster. A poster of the slogan which they have to think up themselves: The slogan must be a personal affirmation message. An example of this is "I can bring peace to my life", "I am great at sports", "I want to see love in the world".

Anything possitive that you would like to see happening or that you can do, is a good affirmation. The idea behind this is that any message we send out and communicate and think about has a greater chance of really happening, so think positive messages about you and your future and it will happen.

step3.gif
Get everyone down to work as quickly as possible. While learners are working you can go around and assist as necessary.

step4.gif
Make sure there is at least 10 mins at the end of the class to allow some learners to show the poster they made to the group and to save their work.
Questions you can ask: What did you learn by doing this?

Tips for making posters
For text: The snappier the text, the better. Keep it simple. Think in slogans.

About poster layout
A good poster is catchy to the eye and easy to read, has a clear and understandable message with convincing arguments and/or slogan. The posters can be made in a short time, using Word, word art, different fonts and colors. Students can also insert symbols, smiley's or other kinds of signs that may be appropriate to liven up their posters. If you have an internet connection you can download images from the web and use them in your posters.
