CHECKLISTS

Before a lesson

For the pilot schools in this WOW program the educators will work together with the Gun Free SA facilitators.
This is the checklist for the GFSA facilitator to prepare before a lesson.

1. Arrange to meet the educator. Then discuss and agree on four things: the TIME for the lessons, the PLACE for the lesson and which Lesson you're going to do. Agree on ROLES, who is going to do what during the lessons?

2. Inform yourself about the learners, do they have much computer knowledge already or maybe none. Do they have many experiences with violence. Is the school already a gun free zone? Have the learners had any previous training or lessons in conflict prevention or alternatives to violence.

3. Confirm the time and place the day before the lesson

4. Study your lesson thoroughly! Do the lesson yourself and with friends to practice.
- Study the lesson outcomes, you will find these under the goal icon
- Look at the suggested lesson plan - also under the goal icons
- Make sure you know about the issues discussed in the info cartoon
- Check if the lesson is the part of the exchange - wake up lesson and on your way?
- The exchange is obligatory as the Dutch schools will be waiting for you
- Prepare your introduction
- If there is a make in the lesson make sure you have done it yourself and are familiar with the techniques needed. Such as word art in Word or PowerPoint.
- Have your answers prepared for the discussion
- Have a plan B for when computers fail or other changes happen

5. Materials to bring to class:
- Bring the lesson printed with you on paper and your own notes
- Your usb stick with the website on it
6. Look presentable

In the lesson

* Start by introducing yourself (your name), the organisation (briefly) and what you are going to do today.
* Speak slowly and clearly
* Agree on ground rules (this is only for the first lesson)
* Outline the outcomes for the lesson for that day
* Be assertive and stick to the time schedule (time management)
