My own conflicts (25 mins)

Goals

orange-dot.gifLearner reflect on the conflicts in their life and how to solve them.

Guidelines
You are going to get the learners to make a table in Microsoft Word or Open Word. They can also make it on paper. Practice making it for yourself before the lesson.

step1.gif
Tell the learners to think of all the conflicts they have been involved in, in the last few weeks, for a few moments.

step2.gif
Next each learner should make a table with three columns and about 5 or 6 rows. In the top row, put into the columns: 'Conflict with' 'About' and 'Status'.

step3.gif
Now the learners should fill into the columns the conflicts they have been having and who they have had them with. As in this example.

step4.gif
There are 5 ways conflicts go:

  • Those which you have not solved yet.
  • Those which you have tried to ignore.
  • Those in which you have just let the other person/people have their own way so that you could keep the peace.
  • Those which have turned violent.
  • Those which you have resolved nonviolently.
The learners should now complete their table by adding in the 'status' of each conflict as per the 5 ways they could have responded to the conflict.

step5.gif
Tell learners to choose one of these conflicts, one that they would like to be able to resolve peacefully and in a way that keeps or builds a good relationship between them and the other person.

step6.gif
Get the class to save their files and come into a circle again to discuss what they learnt from this activity.

Questions you can ask:
orange-dot.gifWhat did you learn from this?
orange-dot.gifWhat conflict did you choose to solve and why?
