A group or club I belong to (30 mins)

Goals
Learners reflect on the groups they belong to.

Guidelines

On your own, think about a group or club you belong to. It might be a structured group, like a sports club, or an unstructured one, like the friends you hang out with after school.

Now take a piece of paper and write down answers to the following questions:

  • Are you generally happy to be part of this group? Why? Why not?
  • If someone asked you to explain why you are part of this group/club, could you do so in a way that feels good to you?
  • Do you sometimes feel hesitant about going to meet with the group? If so, what are your concerns when this happens?
  • How is this group/club building you as a person?
  • What is your contribution to this group? Are you happy with this contribution? Why? Why not?
  • If not, what one thing could you do to improve or change the contribution you are making?
  • Do you feel free to raise your own opinion when you are having discussions and your opinion differs from the majority in the group? Why? Why not?
  • If it is a group that you would like to get out of, is there someone you trust whom you could talk to about this? Someone who could help you make another choice?
