School survey (2 x 30 mins)
Conduct a research study in your school by following the instructions below:Obtain permission from the Principal and relevant teacher to do a written survey with one class in the school that is a higher Grade than yours. Find a time when you will be able to meet with this class, together with an educator who will help you with the survey.
Prepare your questions on a sheet of paper, either by copying the questionnaire or by printing it – one sheet for each learner.
Click here to open the questionnaire.
When you meet with the class, explain that you are doing research on gender issues and that you would appreciate their help. Also explain that this is anonymous research, and that they should not put their names on their questionnaires. Finally, explain that you will present the results of your survey at assembly.
Conduct the survey with the class on the appointed day.
Collate all the answers from your questionnaires.
Write up all your findings – with diagrams if you like – on a poster so that you can present it clearly. You can make your poster in Ms Word, using Word Art and different fonts, sizes and colours, or in any other program on the computer. You can also work on paper.
Present your findings, explaining what you think these findings show us about the kind of school, community and society we live in, and what we want to do about this.
