Self-discipline (30 mins)

To help us learn self-discipline, we need to practice self-discipline.

step1.gif
Choose one task that you commit yourself to doing every day for the next week. Do not choose a task that you enjoy doing, or that you are already doing e.g. watching television.
Examples of tasks could be:

- Getting up 30 minutes earlier every morning to do some exercise or have some quiet time with yourself
- Agreeing to do a home chore that you do not usually do
- Visiting and helping a sick or old person in your neighbourhood
- Helping a classmate or a younger learner in your school with his/her school work.

Decide on a time when you will be able to do this every day. It will be easier to uphold your commitment to your activity, if you do it at the same time every day.

Keep a journal where, every day, you write down:
  • What you did.
  • Any new experiences you had with the activity.
  • How you felt about doing it.
  • What you are learning about yourself in the process.
  • Anything else you would like to add.
In the next lesson be ready to report on your progress.
