EXCHANGE II

Reacting to each other's comic strips
We are going to look at and react to the comics that the learners in the Netherlands have made. You will work in the same group as last time. The Dutch learners had the same assignment you had in the previous lesson; they also made a comic about a conflict that is typical for young people in their country. We will now have a look at the comics they made and respond to them, by giving an example of how you think you can solve the conflict in their comic.

step1.gif
Go to the comic maker by clicking here or typing in http://againstviolence.butterfly-works.org/

step2.gif
Click on ‘The comic strips?’
Here you find all the comics that have been published.

step3.gif
To find the comics from the exchange students, you go to 'select a school'.
You can type in the name of the school and class of the exchange school, which you have been given by the educator.

step4.gif
Find the comic made by the group that has the same number of your group in the name.
Have a look at the comic they made. This is a typically Dutch conflict.

Discuss in the group:
* What happens in the comic?
* How did the characters react to what happened?
* What do you think about what happened and how they reacted?
* How do you think that the conflict can be solved?

step5.gif
- Click on respond under the comic.
- Fill in all the blanks and type a response in which you describe;
- Did you recognize the conflict?
- How would you solve this problem?
Explain for each character in the comic what you think they should do.

step6.gif
When you click on ‘go’ your response will be published. The Dutch learners who made the comic will now be able to read your solution.

step7.gif
Find the comic your group made the last time and look at the comments and responses the Dutch learners have given to your comic.

step8.gif
Discuss the comics and Dutch responses to the comics with the rest of the class.
What have you learnt from the exchange?
