GUIDE FOR GOOD LISTENING
Some guidelines for good listening
- For most of us life
is very pressured and busy - if you cannot listen to your child right
away, be honest about this and then make the time when you can listen
without any interruptions.
- Take a risk and step out of
your own world by putting aside your own thoughts, feelings and
experiences of similar situations that your child is now talking about
and that happened to you in your life.
- Be prepared to
enter into your child's world by listening to your child not only with
your ears but also with your heart so that you can begin to see what
they are seeing, and understand and feel what they are feeling, even if
you do not agree with them.
- Be patient and loving with yourself, all of this takes practice and it is OK to make mistakes.
